It is my extreme pleasure to announce the latest person to earn the General Carl Spaatz Award: C/Col Joshua Waters!
The Spaatz Award is named in honor of Carl “Tooey” Spaatz, the first chief of staff of the U.S. Air Force. During World War II, Spaatz commanded the Allied air campaign against Germany, and later was in command in the Pacific Theater during the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The Spaatz Award is not given annually. On average, it is earned by only two out of every 1,000 cadets — there are now about 25,000 total Civil Air Patrol cadets nationwide.
